HERAT, Nov. 18 -The National Association of Saffron Growers of Afghanistan with collaboration of the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Herat Province organized 8th Saffron Festival aiming at understanding the techniques used in the production, gathering, processing, marketing, and export of Afghan saffron.
At this exhibition, officials from the government agencies of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Herat joined hundreds of farmers and representatives of saffron-producing and exporting companies while farmers also received knowledge on new production techniques, marketing strategies, and the economic worth of saffron.
Speaking about the rise in saffron yield during this event, Mawlawi Pir Muhammad Halimi, Director of Agriculture of Herat, stated: “Saffron is one of the plants that are resistant to drought. We are trying to We should teach the farmers the right ways to plant and collect this plant, so that we can reduce the effects of drought through the cultivation of this economically valuable plant.”
