Leading a technical team, Mawlawi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, the Deputy Minister of Railways, visited Turkmenistan with the aim of enhancing railway collaboration. During this visit, a memorandum of understanding valued at $7 million was ratified with the Railway Administration of Turkmenistan.

This agreement pertained to the enhancement of the Herat-Torghondi station, the finalization of the remaining 10 km stretch of the Aqina-Andkhoy railway line, and the formulation of two additional memorandums of understanding concerning the survey and detailed design of the 55 km Andkhoy-Sheberghan railway line.

Following the signing of these memorandums, the plan is to proceed with the development contracts for these three projects between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in the imminent future, thereby commencing practical work. The Ministry of Public Works prioritizes the construction, interconnection, and standardization of Afghanistan’s railway network. The ministry is actively seeking to foster bilateral cooperation at regional and international levels to advance Afghanistan’s railway infrastructure.

This initiative unfolds as part of the Deputy Minister of Railways’ efforts within the Ministry of Public Works, having previously visited Iran, Uzbekistan, and Turkey to bolster bilateral relations and enhance railway cooperation.
