The Minister of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, met with the Iranian Ambassador to Kabul, Alireza Begdali, and the Pakistani Ambassador, Obaidul Rahman Nizamani, in separate meetings, said ministry in a statement.
In these meetings, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir said that Iran and Pakistan are friendly and Muslim neighboring countries of Afghanistan, which is why they have many commonalities, and added that they have hosted millions of Afghan refugees for years, and the Islamic Emirate is grateful to them and hopes that the host countries will exercise patience and forbearance towards the refugees.
He said that recently, the mistreatment of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Iran has increased, and we ask the host countries to respect the international principles of refugees and treat Afghans humanely and Islamically. The Minister added that the Islamic Emirate is committed to regional stability, economic cooperation, and shared opportunities through its economy-oriented policy, and does not intend to create problems for anyone, but rather seeks to strengthen cooperation with the countries of the region.
Continuing the meeting, Honorable Maulvi Abdul Kabir mentioned that the Islamic Emirate encourages Afghan refugees to return to the country, but due to the lack of conditions at home, host countries should act according to an organized and gradual mechanism instead of forced deportation.
He emphasized that it is difficult to deport all Afghan refugees from Pakistan by the end of June, because they cannot gather their entire lives and assets in such a short period of time. He urged host countries to give Afghan refugees time based on joint mechanisms, and bilateral and trilateral meetings are necessary in this regard. Honorable Maulvi Abdul Kabir expressed the hope that the path of dialogue should be chosen for the partial problems between the two countries, that closing Torkham, war and violence are not the solution, and that destructive actions should be avoided at Torkham. Thousands of passengers, patients, funerals and traders’ goods are stuck on both sides of Torkham, so serious action should be taken in this regard so that both sides do not suffer much.
At the same time, the Pakistani Ambassador in Kabul assured Mawlawi Abdul Kabir that he would officially share the demands of the Islamic Emirate with the Pakistani authorities. He said that Pakistan’s future is linked to Afghanistan, therefore, it does not use Afghan refugees as political tools, but wants the problems to be resolved through understanding. Similarly, the Iranian Ambassador in Kabul, Mr. Alireza Bigdali, said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is making efforts to cooperate with legal refugees, but a permanent solution must be found for the problem of illegal refugees. He added that given the good relations between Afghanistan and Iran, it is necessary for both countries to jointly take necessary measures to solve the problems of Afghan refugees. We want illegal refugees residing in Iran to be provided with the necessary legal documents. Mr. Bigdali praised the decree of the Leader of the Islamic Emirate, His Eminence Amir al-Mu’mineen, on preventing human trafficking, and said that this measure will lead to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
At this meeting, promises were made to initiate a number of measures to resolve the problems of Afghan refugees, and both sides emphasized that the refugee issue should be kept separate from political issues and that practical steps should be taken to resolve it.
