The Ministry of Public Works has initiated numerous projects in the realm of road construction and repair this year.

Ministry officials briefed the media on the ministry’s activities and accomplishments during a press conference at the Government Information and Media Center on Wednesday.

Mawlawi Abdul Karim Fateh, the Technical Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Public Works, stated during the press conference that several projects in road construction, repair, and reconstruction have been launched by the ministry, with some already completed and others currently in progress.

Mr. Fateh noted that the asphalting of the first and second layers of the 430-kilometer Kabul-Kandahar highway has been finished, while work on the foundational construction of the Salang highway is ongoing. Progress of 44 percent has been achieved in the initial phase of the Kandahar-Uruzgan highway, with construction underway on the Tarinkot-Dehradun, Dasht-Archi-Kunduz, and Kandahar-Spin Boldak roads. Additionally, ongoing construction and repair works include the second lane roads of the Kabul-Ghazi, Kabul-Jalalabad highways, and the Herat-Chisht Sharif road.

The signing of contracts for the construction of the 31-kilometer-long Maidan Wardak-Logar connecting road with two companies worth around 713 million Afghanis has been completed, with a projected completion timeframe of 16 months. Moreover, construction is underway for 14 mosques, including one on the Kabul-Herat highway.

At the press conference, a contract was signed with a private company for the construction of a 25-kilometer road, the fifth section of the 61-kilometer-long Qaisar-Laman ring road, totaling over 1.4 billion Afghanis. The Gizab Bridge, spanning over 110 meters in length and approximately 9.5 meters in width, has been primarily constructed and put into operation. Construction of the Zeri Baba and Pashd bridges in Kunar province, the Mullah Ali Bridge in Samangan province, and the Spin Khor Bridge in Nangarhar province is ongoing.

The Ministry of Public Works aims to clear snow from more than 7,572 kilometers of roads in 28 provinces of the country, including Salang and Mahipar, during the current winter season. Furthermore, the ministry reported that approximately 3.5 million metric tons of cargo have been transported through the four railway lines (Hairtan, Aqina, Torghundi, and Khawaf-Herat) in the first ten months of this year .
