KABUL, Sep. 23 –  30 children suffering from ventricular sceptical defects  have been referred by Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) to 2 hospitals in Kabul for treatment and surgery.

During the referrals session of these patients, Mawlawi Matiul Haq Khalis, the Acting General President of Afghan Red Crescent, stated, “Afghanistan has a significant number of children suffering from ventricular sceptical defects, which might be be attributed to the past war and the extensive use of chemicals in the country.”

Khalis revealed, “Over the past 14 years Afghan Red Crescent has registered 26,481 children suffering from ventricular sceptical defects , where almost half of the patients have received treatment.”

He further mentioned, “In the last 2 years, we have referred 1,801 children for surgical procedures to hospitals Out of these patients , 1,600 patients have already recovred , while the remaining are still receiving treatment in hospitals.”

Mr. Maulvi Matiul Haq Khalis emphasized that Afghan Red Crescent is not government budgeted organ and relies on its own sources of income from its properties, as well as domestic and foreign charitable societies, and the support of affluent individuals within the country.

He stated, “Our scope of work is extensive, and in future, we are determined to provide ambulance services throughout the country. This will ensure that sick and deceased members of impoverished and needy families can be transported to hospitals and to their homes free of charges.
