HELMAND, Dec. 06 – As many as 23 inmates of Helmand Central Prison were released this afternoon and sent to their families.
They were imprisoned by the Islamic Emirate for various crimes and were released after serving their punishment. The detainees were released and returned to their families in the presence of Mawlawi Abdul Jabbar Hijrat, Acting Director of the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office, religious scholars, officials of the prison and Mujahideen. Meanwhile, Mr. Hijrat and a prominent scholar called on the released prisoners to choose a better way of life in the community and call on the people of villages, families and communities to follow the right path instead of committing evil deeds.
It is noteworthy that more than a thousand people are still imprisoned in Helmand Central Prison for various crimes, mostly drug use.
