A specialized 200-bed cancer hospital is set to commence operations in Kabul next year, as announced by the Ministry of Public Health on World Cancer Day.
Dr. Sharafat Zaman, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, highlighted the unique nature of this upcoming hospital. In addition to Kabul, healthcare centers will be established across five zones in the country to offer medical services to cancer patients.
Dr. Zaman emphasized the rising prevalence of cancer in Afghanistan, with approximately 6,000 new patients seeking treatment in various hospitals across the nation this year. He attributes the increase in cancer cases to the consumption of tobacco and other carcinogenic substances. World Cancer Day is observed annually on February 4th.
