GHAZNI,  Mar. 20  – Bakhtar News Agency reports of hundreds of thousands of unproductive ornamental trees and saplings being planted in the city of Ghazni this spring.

Haji Abdul Ghafoor, head of Natural Resources and acting director of Ghazni Department of Agriculture and Livestock told Bakhtar News Agency 10000 trees and plants had been cultivated and nurtured in the villages for the purpose of greenery and healthy environment and were distributed to government officials, health centers, schools, mosques and green areas.

He stated that each ornamental tree was worth 50 Afghanis and was produced and nurtured using agriculture budget and was being distributed free of charge.

The Ghazni citizens see the move by the Department of Agriculture and Livestock as a positive step towards the greenery of their city and say that they should be better protected.

The head of the Ghazni Department of Agriculture and Livestock says that they took a written commitment from those receiving the trees or saplings to more careful to nurture, irrigate and protect the trees, adding that the Department of Agriculture also assigned a professional team to properly protect these saplings for a year, while the authorities regularly monitor the process of the protection and irrigation of the saplings planted in the area.

It is, however, noteworthy that most of the employees and officials of the Department of Agriculture in the districts of Ghazni province had difficulty going to their work and attending their jobs due to security problems in the past.

With the arrival of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan the security of Ghazni province has been fully ensured and all employees have been reassigned to their duties in the districts to provide services to the people.
